It’s no secret that Pinterest has taken the Internet by storm, with its veritable ocean of funny cat photos, inspiring haircuts, motivating quotes, and creative DIY projects for around the home.
I have however started to question some of these “pins”. What I’d really like to know is if the majority of these “creative ideas” are actually tried and tested by the author? Or, are they just taking the piss, and copying and pasting together a bunch of photos from Google Images, trying to make us believe they’re ever-so creative in their own home?
Anyway, so here’s one I stumbled across yesterday for: 12 Creative Ways to Recycle Wine Bottles. I’ve duly followed each one with my own personal thoughts…
Not bad, not very unique, but not bad! I’ll let this one slide…
……and then what? So you have a bunch of wine bottles covered in yarn in your house? So that every time you have guests over, they ask “….errrrmmm…why do you have a bunch of wine bottles covered in yarn in your living room?”
I think this is probably one of those ideas that looks really good in the photo; so you try it for yourself, but the finished result just ends up looking crap.
I like this one!
Again…looks great in the photo, but what are the chances your attempt at “impressionist wine bottle painting” is going to turn out looking like the bottle above, and not like art from a mental institution?
Simple, cheap, and effective: I like it!
I made one of these a couple of years ago at Christmas and I was actually very pleased with the end result! Not really a year-round decoration though…
I have a friend that makes these and they’re very cool, but it’s not the sort of thing you want to attempt yourself. If you don’t have the edges smoothed-down perfectly, you and your guests will end-up having your lips cut to shreds. Not very “swanky”!
Love it, so-much-so that I may even have to attempt this myself!
Ridiculous.
Here’s another one I really like; although I’d be terrified that the cat would attempt to climb my newly-created wine bottle shelving, with all hell shortly following!

Very cool. Did you see the insert in the Oregonian with the house that used bottles for their dining room light fixture.

I love how honest you are and spot on! I really like the Tiki Torches!

:) Cheers Lynn! I just like to think of these things from a practicality stand-point…

I also love those bookshelves. I wouldn’t even know where to start with making the chandelier!

I missed that. Do you have a link?
