Ponte Vedra Wine Cellar Project by Curtis Dahl.

I don’t open-up this website to guest bloggers very often; but when my good friend Curtis Dahl from wine cellar builder Joseph and Curtis hit me up last week, to let me know know about a wine cellar they were building right here in Jacksonville, I jumped at the chance to get the inside scoop. Curtis writes: In building wine cellars across the country, one of my favorite destinations is Jacksonville/Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Having…

LOOK OUT!!!! FRUIT BOMB!!!!

Whenever you hear the term “Fruit Bomb,” what is being referred to is a modern-style of winemaking, which quite simply emphasizes fruit above all else. These wines are big, in-your-face, rich and jammy; and feel like….oh….I don’t know…..hmmmmm…..an angry 400lb man wearing a bright purple jumpsuit and steel toe-capped boots made out of plums, blackberries and strawberries, has you on the floor and is kicking your teeth in! You know that feeling?Oh….and you probably…

Full Bodied: An Art Tasting Exhibition by Conrad Engelhardt

You might remember Conrad Engelhardt from one of my previous posts on his amazing wine cork art. Well, Conrad actually just finished his latest art exhibition in London last week, and so I thought you might like to take a look at the walk-through video he made of his wine cork artwork the morning before the exhibit. All the artwork is made from wine corks, and all the colors you see are only from how…

A Sommelier’s Guide to Picking the Right Wine for Your Valentine.

Jacksonville Magazine recently asked to write an article for their February Valentine’s issue, and so I thought I’d share it with you all, mainly just to prove that I have indeed been keeping myself busy away from this website! Below is their published version, and below that is the original article I submitted. I really don’t care that they edited it down the published version, but personally I prefer the original. :) New Relationship It’s…

Tasting Room Calls it Quits.

So…no-more little wine bottle samples!?!? That sucks. I loved getting those in the mail! Online flash wine retailer the Tasting Room has called it quits and shutdown all operations. The basic premise behind Tasting Room was to offer 100ml mini wine bottle samples (in prepackaged flight gift packs) of popular wines for consumers to “try before they buy.” TastingRoom.com have supposedly “initiated a partnership” with Lot18, a invite-only online wine store, who also seem to…

Wine Drinkers Know Bugger-All About Sonoma.

Not my most eloquent of headlines…but I think it gets the job done. The Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers Alliance recently announced they are starting a new campaign to educate wine drinkers on the difference between Sonoma Coast and Sonoma County. A survey of 1,000 US consumers has shown that, when choosing a wine to purchase, very few wine drinkers differentiate between Sonoma County and Sonoma Valley. “We know that Sonoma Valley has very distinct…

What’s Been Keeping Me So Occupied Lately!

Alrighty! Wow! It seems like so long since I’ve been on here! Don’t worry I haven’t abandoned ship! I know my posts have been extremely scare these last few weeks, but I have a very good reason (actually about 50 different reasons) for my absence. But before I get into that, let me run something past you real quick… The first major change I would like to report is that I’m switching-up my approach with…

Mega Purple to the Rescue!!!

No, Mega Purple contrary to what you might think, is not the worst super-hero of all time! Mega Purple is 100% grape juice concentrate that is supposed to darken the color of a wine without adding flavor or aroma. It comes in white, pink, red and purple versions, and believe it or not, you have definitely consumed Mega Purple before, whether you’ve known it or not! This especially true if you’ve ever bought a bottle…

French Winemakers in a Tizzy over Obama Inauguration “Champagne California”

In a move COMPLETELY UNCHARACTERISTIC of their nation, French winemakers have once again screamed “SACRE BLEU!!!” over a U.S. wine. This time, it’s the wine that Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II plans to serve at his upcoming inauguration. The problem all stems from the name of the wine and the order of its wording: “Korbel Natural, Special Inaugural Cuvée Champagne, California.” Just so you know, I’ve actually seen another name for this wine in similar…

Wining & Dining – The Sediment Guide to Wine and the Dinner-Party.

I always like to hear about the “side projects” of other wine bloggers…but I also read into these ventures a little more than I probably should. Blogging needs to start from a passion for a given subject. If the passion isn’t there, the blog will surely die. Blogging is also an evolution, one which opens-up said blogger to numerous other opportunities. Opportunities which, I promise you, no-one understand that more than my good self! The…

Amazing Champagne Cork Chairs.

The story goes that Rob Forbes (founder of Design Within Reach, a furniture company which aims to bring high design to the general public) was given an intricate miniature chair made out of a champagne cork, complete with the wire cage and metal medallion. The chair sat on his desk for long enough that it attracted a large amount of compliments…enough to make a light bulb illuminate inside Forbes’ head! From there, the DWR Champagne…
