The Value of a Wine Tasting Note.

As you more or may not know, for the last few days I’ve been at the Wine Bloggers Conference in Charlottesville. An awesome experience overall; sampled lots of great wines (some crappy ones as well), met tons of great people (most of whom I’ve been talking to over the last couple of years on Twitter/Facebook), and enjoyed the company of a number of wine bloggers / marketers I happened upon for the first time.  …

Virginia is for (Wine) Lovers!

Probably about the same time that you are reading this, I will have started my short journey from Jacksonville up to Charlottesville, Virginia; the destination for this years Wine Bloggers Conference. This is the first time the conference has been held on the East Coast, and I’m psyched that I can finally manage to make it! I’ve attended countless wine tastings in my time “in the industry” but never anything on the scale of…

Virginia Viognier: A Tasting. Part One Of Two

This last Thursday (7/14/11),  I was given the the unique opportunity to participate in a wine tasting unlike anything else I’ve ever been involved with before. All the wines were indeed from the great state of Virginia. Now I don’t know about you, but for me Virginia, when I think about it…

Why I Think Google+ has the Potential to Kill Facebook

There’s been so much flying around the Internet with regard to Google’s new social service (Google +), that I thought it warranted a quick post. I don’t want to drag this article out too much, after all this is a wine website; but with me taking such an active interest in social media, I thought it was worth letting you know some of my insights:  Google seems to be listening to its audience (customers), unlike…

Everything You Wanted to Know About Oak (and Probably Some Stuff You Didn’t).

Oak plays a bigger role in winemaking than I think most people realize! The color, flavor, tannin and texture of a wine can all be influenced via oak contact; either during the fermentation or aging of wine. When it comes to white wines, oak is often viewed as  “fruit killer”, and should never be allowed anywhere near the juice. However for the longest time, those with this opinion could been viewed as a small minority. …

The Subtle use of a Highlighter…

As I’m sure you’ve already noticed, there’s certain sections within my posts that I like to draw your attention to by the genius use of a highlighter! It’s an idea that I dreamt up, patented, and if I see any other website ripping off the idea, I’ll be suing their asses off! No, just kidding. I actually stole the idea from Mens Health Magazine, back when I used to read it. Mens Health always had…

This Week In Wine – 6/25/11 – Chinese Wine, Perfume Shaped Bottles, and Bordeaux Crying Wolf.

China’s wine industry topples Australia China’s wine production has now surpassed Australia’s wine industry as living standards improve in China. China’s restaurants were once dominated by beer and the local white spirit, Baijiu. But these days you are increasingly likely to see people drinking wine. More than two decades of exposure to the outside world have changed people’s tastes, and increased living standards have made wine more affordable. At the beginning of the…

A Sardinian Feast with Friends

A couple of years go, the Mrs. and I jetted off to the small Italian island of Sardinia for the marriage of two of our best friends; Mr. Adam Bartoy and Miss Jacqueline Mariani. Jacq’s family is native to Sardinia, and so both her and Adam end up going back there about every couple of years for family obligations. Their most recent obligation/vacation (a couple of weeks ago) was for a baptism, and when they…

Gary Vaynerchuk’s Daily Grape Feature – Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2007

Wine: 2007 Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano  Grape: 100% Sangiovese Score: 91 Points Price: $25 MSRP   Gary’s explanation why: For all you longtime Italian fans out there, you very well know that about 10 years ago, Tuscan wines were as hot as Saved by the Bell. In the last few years, popularity has waned… not only are sales down, but prices have followed suit for many high end wines, especially in the Super Tuscan…

The Foursquare Wino Badge

I don’t know if there are any avid FourSquare users reading this website, but I thought this might be of interest to you! Location-based social network service FourSquare recently announced their Wino badge, awarded to users after they “check-in” 3 times to what are  categorized as wine bars. A nice way of showing your friends what a discerning oenophile you are!   Now here’s the interesting part: I think I might have had a large…
