The Wine Spectator FINALLY Discovers the Secret to a Successful Facebook Post.

This made me smile when I saw it yesterday! Let me explain what we’re looking at… The below image shows a screenshot taken from the Wine Spectator Facebook Page from this September. The range of likes they received (at least when you look at this particular month), ranges from 11-40, the number of comments is from 0-20 and the number of shares is from 0-13. I would be quite happy with those numbers, but then…

French Winemakers Slowly Making Friends with Social Media.

French wineries, like over-tired children, are kicking and screaming but slowly making their way onto social media, a survey has revealed. The survey of 528 wineries in the United States and France conducted by ABLE Social Media Marketing found that while 94% of U.S. vintners were on Facebook, only 53% of their French counterparts were. But the French are slowly coming online. A similar 2010 study by ABLE’s corporate predecessor mysocialwinery.com reported less than 20%…

Why Social and Selling Don’t Mix….Another Nail in the Coffin for the Question of ROI in Social Media.

The news this week reported on Bloomberg.com doesn’t exactly help provide the answer businesses were looking for, in respect to the question: “What is the true ROI of social media?” Bloomberg reported the following: “Last April, Gamestop opened a store on Facebook in an attempt to generate sales from their growing fanbase of 3.5 million-plus customers who’d declared themselves “fans” of the video game retailer. Less than 6 months later, the store has been quietly…

The Most Overused Winery Social Media Posts

No doubt it’s extremely difficult for any business to maintain a constant stream of engaging content on Facebook, Twitter, and all the rest of it; but it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of posting the saaaaaaame old stuff. It’s often suggested that if you can’t post daily, or at least every-other-day, you have no place having a social media presence, at least when it comes to business. I would like to counter…

The Value of a Facebook “Like”.

I haven’t written a social media post for a while. I recognize that this is basically a wine website, but I like to throw in the occasional social media article, as it’s a topic that interests me greatly. Also, according to my stats, Facebook is my #3 generator of traffic, (right after organic Google searches, and direct traffic). So there’s a very good chance that if you’re reading this, you found me through one of…

Why I Think Google+ has the Potential to Kill Facebook

There’s been so much flying around the Internet with regard to Google’s new social service (Google +), that I thought it warranted a quick post. I don’t want to drag this article out too much, after all this is a wine website; but with me taking such an active interest in social media, I thought it was worth letting you know some of my insights:  Google seems to be listening to its audience (customers), unlike…

Top 8 Wineries Doing Facebook Right!

It was surprisingly difficult to write this article. This title originally was “Top 10 Wineries Doing Facebook Right!” but I just couldn’t find 10 wineries. A much easier post would have been “Top 200 Wineries Doing Facebook Wrong!” I could name-names, but that wouldn’t be very fair now would it? The thing that makes all of this worse is that the really big ones, supposedly the ones with the big marketing budgets are generally the…

Top 10 Tips for Wineries (and Other Businesses) on Using Twitter – Part 2

This is part 2 of my article aimed at helping businesses and wineries specifically get a handle on the little blue bird that is Twitter. Part 1 can be found here. Please not that I don’t claim to be any type of “social media guru”, (there are already far too many of them coming out of the woodwork right now), but what follows is what I have learnt from my own personal experiences…

Top 10 Tips for Wineries (and Other Businesses) Using Twitter – Part 1

This is another Social Media article that I have been meaning to write for at least 6 months now. The reason that I haven’t gotten around to it sooner is that it takes take so bloody long to put my thoughts into words! I’m probably going to start transitioning these type of articles to a separate website (I just purchased KrisChislett.com a couple of days ago), but for now I am happy to host them…

Facebook Announces “Breathalyze My Status” App…

A little-known website called “Facebook” (apparently it’s some sort of “social networking” service), recently announced a brand new application, which it hopes will revolutionize the way you think about updating your social status! It used to be that drunk dialing was the thorn-in-the-side of the intoxicated cell phone user, then it became drunk texting; and now with the recent surge in social media, drunken status updates have become the next big problem. Introducing the “Breathalyze…
